ERAWAN SHRINE
is a shrine in Bangkok, Thailand, that houses a
statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai
representation of the Hindu god of creation Lord Brahma. A popular worship
attraction, it often features performances by resident Thai dance troupes, who are
hired by worshipers in return for seeing their prayers at the shrine answered. Bangkok's most beloved temple (and also the top tourist site) is a fantastic, mini-city sized royal complex enclosed by quaintly crenelated white walls.Building process began in 1782, the year Bangkok was founded, and every monarch subsequent to King Rama I has expanded or enhanced it. Today despite being able to visit many sights on its grounds, much of it remains off-limits. The highlight is the Emerald Buddha - Thailand's most sacred Buddhist relic - and the ornate temple purpose-built to house it, Wat Phra Kaew, where hundreds pay their respects each day.Remember to dress respectfully as a strict no shorts or sleeveless shirts policy is enforced.

The home of Jim Thompson, the American businessman largely credited for the global popularity of Thai silk, is a must see.In a sun-dappled tropical garden beside a canal, six traditional teak houses brim with the art pieces and antiques he collected from around Asia, from limestone Buddha torsos to a cat-shaped porcelain bedpan. Regular group tours led by silk-clad guides introduce you to these exquisite treasures and the life of the man himself.There's also a shop selling his trademark designs, an art gallery and cafe.
CHINA TOWN
China town is the paradise of food lovers who crave for Chinese cuisine. Both sides of its main street are flanked with restaurants and food vendors throughout the day.Local delicacies include Dim Sum, Teachew-style steamed Chinese mullet, noodles, casserole pork in noodles soup, rice with boiled chicken, rice with crispy pork or duck topping rice with curry, etc.Other interesting appetizers and desserts are stuffed sheet noodles, pork satay, dumplings, soybean milk, lotus root juice and toasted chestnuts.

A shopping center in Petchburi area, Platinum Fashion Mall caters especially to wholesale chothing in air-conditioned comfort. The mall has six floors which are filled with small outlets - most of them specializing in women's clothing and fashion accessories.Since it is a wholesale mall, you can get items at very reasonable prices - provided you buy larger quantities, usually starting from three items. The price is approximately 30% lower than full retail price. Some shops allow the customers to mix different types of products, for example, bags, shirts and trousers. And as with most shopping malls in the city, there is also food court on the fifth floor, along with cafes and fast food chains.If you're coming from Central World, you shouldn't have any trouble finding it. Just head north, cross the small canal, and turn left into Petchburi road, head straight for a few metres and Platinum Fashion Mall is on your left.
